ROUND 1

1. sth. be an arduous process

=sth. be an tiring process that requires a great deal of effort

(某事是一個(gè)需要付出艱苦努力的過程)

eg. Attending a university with a top-tier reputation often is an arduous but rewarding process.

拓展：

1）be very rewarding有回報(bào)的

=making someone feel satisfied

eg. Teaching can be a very rewarding career.

教學(xué)是一項(xiàng)回報(bào)豐厚的事業(yè)。

 

2）Someone’s aspiration/pursuit

=someone’s strong wish for achievement

中文含義：夢想（應(yīng)試時(shí)替代dream的地道表達(dá)）

eg. The educational aspiration/pursuits of rural youth tend to be different from those of students living elsewhere.

相比其他地方的孩子，農(nóng)村孩子在教育的追求和渴求是大不相同的。

 

2.rote memorization

= a learning technique that focuses on learning by repetition

中文含義：機(jī)械記憶

eg. Rote memorization is not entirely useless. It can help children to learn the basics such as the multiplication tables.

死記硬背并非一無是處。它可以幫助孩子牢記像乘法表達(dá)這樣的基礎(chǔ)知識。

=learn sth. so that you can remember it perfectly

3. use lateral thinking

4. cover a lot of ground

=（of subjects or courses）deal with much information and many facts

中文含義：（在課程或科目中）覆蓋了很廣泛的領(lǐng)域

eg. We’ve covered a lot of ground in this class in the past couple of months.

我們在過去幾個(gè)月里廣泛學(xué)習(xí)了這門課中的各種知識。

eg. She’s a well-rounded person who not only works hard but also has a varied social life.

2）comprehensive coverage of sth.

=include many details or aspects of sth.

中文含義：廣泛涉及某方面的知識

eg. The impression is that the logical nature of the text books and their comprehensive coverage of different types of examples renders work sheets unnecessary.（出自雅思閱讀）
